I seldom use this WP Blog, but maybe it is time to resurrect it for a good cause.
Grrrr! All my techie friends, including my web developer, warned me against MWEB’s hosting. One even said: “Why do you think they have this cheap deal? Because they are losing customers, because of their useless service!” There are so many issues already and the move to MWEB isn’t completed yet.
Firstly, their “unlimited hosting” offer is of course not unlimited. The traffic is “subject to acceptable use policy”, which is very vaguely defined.
The database component is limited to 50 MB, which is very limited, for an “unlimited” offer. When I questioned the sales person about this, he said that it is actually unlimited, but they just haven’t changed the application forms yet. When I spoke to the product manager, she confirmed that the DB limit IS in fact 50MB and the sales person doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Secondly, after FAXING (to an online company???) the application forms through to MWEB, I heard absolutely nothing from them. No email with ftp details. No phone call. Just nothing. Imagine my surprise when I went to AstroDate’s website and found it off line! In the middle of having a large amount of clients having to view profiles of potential dating partners online. I cannot communicate with them, as their contact details are on the database, which I cannot access!
Thirdly, when I phoned the MWEB call centre, I was of course shunted from pillar to post. I landed with somebody who called himself TREVOR PAUL AUGUSTA. I questioned why I haven’t received an info email with ftp details etc and he couldn’t answer me. When I asked why I wasn’t warned that AstroDate’s website would be down, he couldn’t answer me either. He coolly told me that it could be down for 5 DAYS!!! Bearing in mind that all this happened at 16:40 on a Friday, it will probably take 2 weeks!
And when I asked to speak to his supervisor he promptly cut me off! Nice work #MWEB and Trevor!
When I enquired how much 500MB database would cost, I was told it would be R15/month. I’m waiting for them to tell me that “the person who told you that, was misinformed”.
My web developer told me that the move to Afrihost happens either instantly, or an hour down time, at most.
Or shall I just blame all this on Mercury Retrograde instead of MWEB’s incompetence?
